Timetable of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a natural area with limited capacity during certain days of the year. For this reason, there are different schedules depending on the time of the year in which we visit. That said, if you want to do the complete route and go up to the hermitage, we recommend that you take into account the schedule of the capacity control.

Free visiting hours.

Free visits are those that you make on your own, without a guide. In these cases, we must take into account that the capacity of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is not controlled throughout the year. There are only limitations at those times when a larger number of people are expected. The rest of the year the entrance is free 24 hours a day. Here is a brief summary of the times of the year when access is controlled. Remember that the control will be carried out during uninterrupted hours from 9:30 to 19:00 (until 17:00 from October 28).

  • Easter.
  • Weekends between April 13 and June 9.
  • Every day during the summer (between June 10 and September 15).
  • Weekends and holidays in September and October.
  • All Saints’ Day.
  • December Bridge.

Viewing hours of the viewpoints.

The viewpoints that are outside the route are not within the controlled area, so they can be visited 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They have no timetable.

Timetable of the hermitage.

The hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe has no visiting hours. In fact, it only opens its doors to celebrate mass on special days. Here is a brief summary of the days on which the festivities are celebrated in the area:

  • June 24 (San Juan).
  • July 31 (St. Ignatius of Loyola).
  • August 29 (San Juan Degollado).

Guided tour schedules.
